Hello! In addition to serving as fulltime Legislative Assistant to Oklahoma State Representative Phil Richardson and interim assistant to Representative Jason Murphey, I am a Newsletter Editor/Publisher and Project Manager with 20+ years of publishing experience. I am also a
Webmaster; please click on links to the right to visit websites I designed and/or
administer.
I can create or assume the daily operations of a printed newsletter, catalog or other printed or digital publications, including websites slideshows, etc. I delight in taking a project’s raw elements, including text, graphics, color photos, advertising accounts and, if preferred, basic design concept, and transforming them into press-ready or online interactive documents. OR I can take it two steps further, use my professional contacts and have the items professionally printed and mailed to thousands on an address list at automated postal prices, usually saving enough money to pay for my services. Answering to the ICES Board of Directors, it was my responsibility to oversee the project manage the publication process of a 28-page monthly newsletter from beginning to end. Duties included soliciting and writing articles, editing and proofreading, color correction of photos, daily correspondence with Board members, Membership Coordinator, members, advertisers and proofreaders, design and layout of the publication, managing advertising accounts (including ad solicitation and accounts receivable, credit card payments, bank deposits), etc. It was my responsibility to make sure all publishing, proofreading, printing and mailing deadlines were met. I also oversaw the mailing process and kept abreast of and complied with postal regulations regarding periodical mail status and automated mailing procedures, ensuring that the organization continued to save postage every month. My professional accomplishments as ICES Newsletter Editor for the international organization are multi faceted: improving the design and quality of the newsletter, adding eight extra color pages at no extra cost to the membership, researching and implementing periodical status at automated mailing rates, immediately saving the organization enough to pay for my salary with money left over to put in the bank, and increasing advertising revenue to previously unheard of levels. During my years of service, we moved from 35 mm print photography to digital photography, implemented a professional photo studio at every convention, and streamlined procedures and policies at every level of the newsletter production process. I served for three years as elected Board member of the same international organization. For two years it was my job to supervise and provide training for about 60 representatives of the organization. As part of that training, I published a monthly motivational Reps newsletter, built a simple reference website, and planned the activities and schedule of their three-day Midyear Meeting. When a new president was elected during my last year on the Board, I was appointed as Convention Chair, Internet Chair and Publicity Chair. As Convention Chair it was my responsibility for nationwide site selection for our annual convention and convention-related activities. During this time I introduced the concept of online forms for convention attendees where a spreadsheet was auto-populated with the results, streamlining the procedure for volunteers and saving hundreds of hours and reducing costs. In addition, we implemented online membership and convention exit surveys and detailed reporting of all convention elements, thus establishing an ongoing foundation of statistical data which can be analyzed for future business decisions. The convention site we chose for the 2012 convention is not only a quality cut above many ICES conventions before and after that date, it will save the organization thousands of dollars because of the contract we negotiated for our members. During these recession years, membership numbers were UP, instead of down. Hospital
Board experience includes streamlining operating costs and privatizing a
formerly county-run hospital and four subsidiary clinics, thereby
significantly reducing ongoing taxpayer expense and local sales tax by
¾%. Currently serving as Secretary on the Executive Committee of the Board.
